Adhere Repair on Chipped Hoof wall
Each year a large group of domestic and international riders gather to ride from Fort Sumner to Lincoln, New Mexico to re-live part of the "Old-West" and trace the footsteps of the infamous Billy the Kid. The ride crosses five ranches and 150 miles. On the Billy the Kid Trail Ride the horse and rider have to negotiate some of the roughest, toughest terrain the American South-West can dish out.
Last year, I was invited to follow the ride with the support team to provide assistance with hoof related issues. Vettec's Equi-Pak and Sole-Guard were applied to a few of the horses for protection and support to help them navigate the demanding terrain.
Adhere was also used to repair chipped hoof wall on the horse in these photos. The ride was in the final stretch, but there was still one day ahead of us. The trail had gone through the pass in Capitan Mountain when this horses' shoe came off. He was about 10 miles from camp and was riding on very rocky terrain. When he got to camp, I was able to assess his hoof and help him out. The horse was fine, he was not sore, just chipped up. I rebuilt the foot after nailing a new shoe on and repaired the wall with Adhere, preventing the horse stepping the shoe off again. The ride had about 9 miles to go but half of it was coming off the mountain and crossing a creek to get into Lincoln, NM, so a decent hoofwall and a shod foot were important.

This is the finished product... ready to continue on!
I had a great time at the ride, and was happy that I had the materials and experience to help some of the horses and riders out. If I'm invited again, I will gladly accept!
Thank you for your time!
