When it comes to keeping your horse healthy, hoof care is often a critical element so you can enjoy normal activities together, such as riding or competing. Properly maintained hooves are much less likely to develop bacterial and fungal infections; thus, horses can maintain normal hoof function.
Thrush, a bacterial infection, can be a common problem that resides in the “frog” of a horse’s hoof. The frog refers to the dark colored soft tissue on the bottom side of the foot that is triangular in shape, and stretches from a horse’s heel to midway toward the toe.
The last thing thrush bacteria see should be Equi-Pak CS! Equi-Pak CS is a pour-in pad material, infused with copper sulfate, to manage mild to moderate cases of thrush. The pad bonds to the foot, eliminating the need to pick out the feet daily and apply medication.
For use as pad/packing material for Thrush
Can be used as a preventative measure during wet seasons
Bonds to the sole eliminating the need to pick out the feet and apply daily medication
Uniform support allows for faster, thicker hoof wall and sole growth

As temperatures in parts of the country dip below freezing and weather presents wet conditions, horses become susceptible to snowballing and thrush in their hooves. Tab Pigg, CJF, recommends that farriers and horse owners apply snowball pads or pour-in pad material to horse’s hooves during the cold season to prevent snow becoming impacted in the hoof cavity.Vettec Equi-Pak CS can serve as a snowball pad and its special formula can reduce the likelihood of thrush, which often surfaces during wet seasons.
Vettec Equi-Pak CS is a fast-setting, soft, instant pad material.
Give your horse the gift of comfort and support this Holiday Season with Vettec. Equi-Pak is a soft, instant pad material that bonds to the foot for protection and support. To prevent or manage moderate cases of thrush try Equi-Pak CS instant pad material infused with copper sulfate.
Below is a great question we recieved from a Vettec user, and our recommendations to her.
I would like to know which product you would recommend for the following:
I have 4 horses and I'm having major problems with their feet. We live in tropical Queensland, where in the summer we have massive rain fall and it's hot. The horses feet do not fare well. We have problems with seedy toe, white line fever, abscesses and thrush.
We need something that will help heal the problems now and something for prevention for our next wet season.
"Howdy! Wanted to let you know how much I love your products and attribute it to my stallions successes in multi-day 50mile endurance rides. DB Air Alamahn finished 3rd in the AERC Jim Jones stallion award, 8th lightweight west region and reserve CSHA lightweight champion in 2012. He has over 1800 competition miles! DB Air Alamahn & DB BEY BARZ are both currently ranked 2nd this year in the Jim Jones award with 500 mile each and the season has just started! All these rides we completed with Equi-pak CS and I also use your other products in my everyday farrier work.
The second and third visits to the Central California coast revealed some progress in hoof shape and wall growth, and some limitations to the Super Fast application. After two Super Fast applications 4 weeks apart, much of it broke off due to the stresses involved with uneven weight bearing and the wet environment. Thrush also developed in the contracted heel bulbs and central sulcus. So a change in tactics was in order. Farrier Mike Hayward built a bar shoe that was to be glued on to give more support than the Super Fast could provide alone. Normally Adhere is used for glueing on shoes,
It may not be clear if Sole-Guard is the right choice for you and your barefoot horse. We thought it may help to share a question from one of our customers as well as our response. We hope this is helpful to you.
I'm considering using Sole-Guard for my horse after many unsuccessful tries with other barefoot applications. However, I'm concerned about problems arising due to the lack of breathability. What about bacteria that might get sealed in with the Sole-Guard? Also, what about use in mud or wet conditions, including frequent stream crossing?
Daylight Savings is approaching along with colder temperatures and shorter daylight hours. Thanksgiving and Christmas are around the corner, winter will be here soon! What does that mean for horse enthusiasts? That this time of year, more than ever, busy schedules combined with the cold weather, make it harder to squeeze in basic hoof care. While some horse's bodies may slow down hoof growth in these colder months, hoof care is still required to maintain a healthy hoof. Regular hoof trimming and daily picking out of the feet is a good start.
