Technical Question - What Vettec Pad Material Should I use?

Save Their Soles

Every day we receive phone calls, emails and even social media posts with technical questions regarding our products.  Some of the questions are more common than others, however, they are all important to us!  We thought we'd share a recent inquiry from a horse owner that contacted us via Facebook.  The conversation with her went like this:

"How long will the Vettec pour in pad last. I have had 2 different farriers working on my horse this month. One is at a hospital and the pad in his foot came out in one week. Again after one week, the purple pad material fell out.

The Benefits of Using Equi-Pak vs. Silicone

on Fri, 10/05/2012 - 18:35

Frank Dugan from Vettec discusses the benefits of choosing Equi-Pak Instant Pad Material vs. ordinary Silicone for hoof packing.  He demonstrates how the Equi-Pak absorbs concussion whereas the Silicone does not.  It's a great video!

Have you ever heard this one before: "The horse has no wall to nail to and sensitivity to concussion."  Vettec Rep, Larkin Greene heard it recently at the Santa Anita Race track where he ran into a thoroughbred race horse that had those exact issues.  In order to race, and be comfortable, the horse needed SOMETHING.  Fortunately SuperFast came to the rescue.  A custom shoe was built, and the horse was given permission to race with it on!  Great job Larkin.

Sole-Guard - how can it be used?

Have you used Sole-Guard?  Whether your answer is "Yes" or "No" you may be surprised at some of the interesting facts about this product.

The reason for Sole-Guard was to fill the need for a product that would adhere to, protect and support the unshod foot.  Our existing pad materials at the time, Equi-Pak and Equi-Pak CS would adhere to the sole of a barefoot, however, they were too soft to hold up on a foot without the shoe to keep them in place.

Howdy,

Thank you for taking the time to check out Vettec’s new project, “2 Minutes With Tab” (or 2MT for short!).

Our goal with 2MT is to share some of the hoof care knowledge I have gained over the last 3 decades shoeing horses.  As you know, the equine hoof is a very complicated structure.  After all my time in this field, I am still learning new things about hooves!  Education for a farrier never ends.

I’ve had the opportunity to work all types of horses, from everyday ranch horses to athletic event horses.

This mini horse has a limb deviation so common to minis.  She has adapted and can move with surprising speed when she wants to but the cost is abnormal wear and tear to her hoof capsule.  The medial wall rolls under, the lateral wall is compressed and flares outward, while the toe simply wears off until it becomes painful.  Our goal is not to fix anything because it is beyond fixing.  However we can provide wear protection, additional weight bearing surface, and support for the crooked limb without binding her joints.  SuperFast is a great choice because the application can be done in mere

Overfeeding Affects More Than Just Humans

Have you ever seen the effects of overfeeding pregnant mares?  Did you know that overfeeding affects not only the broodmare, but her foal as well?

Food and feeding often times are influenced by human emotions.  We want our pets to be happy, to feel special, to enjoy a treat.  We may think a certain type of feed is great so we give it to our horses without realizing the contents.  We may even give our horses supplements that are not needed.  But learning what effects overfeeding can lead to, particularly in a pregnant mare and her developing foal, may help us avoid giving them too much.
