Vettec Sponsors the Texas A&M Wet Lab

on Mon, 01/21/2013 - 22:38
Vettec sponsored the vet and farrier wet lab at the student chapter of AAEP at Texas A&M University.
Students came from 14 other universities around the country.
In this wet lab, Jason Maki, CFJ, and Tab Pigg taught the up and coming vets how to pull shoes without tearing up the walls.
After the shoes were pulled they had a chance to pare out the sole so they’d get an idea of how a knife works.

Vettec sponsored the vet and farrier wet lab at the student chapter of AAEP at Texas A&M University. Students came from 14 other universities around the country. The Students hold other labs they can attend like dentistry, x-rays, wrapping wounds, and more. In this wet lab, Jason Maki, CFJ, and I taught the up and coming vets how to pull shoes without tearing up the walls. After the shoes were pulled they had a chance to pare out the sole so they’d get an idea of how a knife works. We showed them points of reference in the foot so they didn't overdo the trim. I would like to thank Jason Maki, CJF for doing the lab and the help he brought in to make run so well.

Equi-Build - A Case Study That Shows How Great it Works

on Wed, 01/16/2013 - 20:43
This horse has very little wall in the toe and sides.

Equi-Build is a great material that is often overlooked when it comes to instant pad materials.  Equi-Build is a firm pad vs. Equi-Pak, which is a soft pad.  Typically, most horses, no matter their hoof condition, can tolerate having Equi-Pak in their sole, but not all horses can handle having a firmer pad material.  Therefore, it is a "safe" bet to use Equi-Pak vs. Equi-Build in many people's minds.   Equi-Build also has a longer set time than our other pad materials, so holding the foot up to allow the material to cure is a harder job than it is if Equi-Pak is used.

But Equi-Build shouldn't always be overlooked!  There are many cases where it could be the best product for the horse.

2MT - Two Minutes With Tab - Under Run Heels

on Wed, 01/09/2013 - 00:42

Hi Y'all,

Recently I visited a ranch where I ran into a horse that had under run heels.  I thought it would be a good opportunity to show how to spot under run heels and how I would correct the hoof in this type of a case.  I hope this will be educational for you all, especially if you happen to come across under run heels in your world.  Enjoy!

Thank Y'all for your time.
